Appearance & Grooming

The Chow Chow is a medium-sized dog with a thick and muscular body. Their appearance looks similar to lions or bears. They also have unique black or deep purple tongue color. The breed can have either a soft or rough double coat in cinnamon, red, blue, cream, and black. The Chow Chow sheds seasonally and requires brushing three times per week when shedding.

Behavior & Disposition

The Chow Chow is quiet, independent, loyal, and intelligent. Adult supervision is recommended when playing with children and other dogs.

Activity Level

The Chow Chow has a moderate activity level. For optimal health, the Chow Chow should be carefully monitored for calorie consumption and avoid foods containing cooked bones and high fat contents. It is also recommended to avoid feeding foods with common allergens.

Training
